About Dan Willcox

I’m Dan Willcox — a Bob Ross® Certified Instructor, painter, and teacher who believes painting should be simple, fun, and encouraging.

I didn’t grow up thinking I’d be an artist. I always enjoyed watching Bob Ross — the calm, the kindness, and the way he made painting feel possible for anyone. During the COVID quarantine in Florida, I found myself watching again and decided it was finally time to try it for myself. I took a class with a Certified Ross Instructor in July of 2020, and that experience changed everything. Before long, I turned a room in my home into a studio and began painting regularly.

In 2022, I became a Certified Ross Instructor®, and today I have the privilege of helping others discover that they can paint too — even if they have never picked up a brush before. I especially enjoy working with beginners and creating an environment where people feel comfortable learning something new.

The past few years have also brought significant life change. In June 2025, my son Andrew passed away, and later that year my marriage of nearly 27 years came to an end, finalized in December 2025. These experiences reshaped my life and continue to influence the way I approach both teaching and living — with gratitude, perspective, and a deep appreciation for meaningful moments.

I’m also six years sober and live a faith-centered life that guides how I show up for others. I don’t teach painting to impress people — I teach because I know the value of starting something new, and how powerful it can be to create with your own hands.

My goal is simple: make painting approachable, supportive, and achievable for anyone willing to try.
